RPM, short for Remote Patient Monitoring, refers to a coordinated system that uses one or more home-based or mobile medical devices to collect and transmit patient data, including vital signs and daily activities, to be subsequently reviewed by healthcare professionals. By empowering the everyday mobile device into a vital signs monitor, FaceHeart enables better accessibility for healthcare professionals to obtain health information and provide care to patients.
FaceHeart’s contactless vital signs solution uses an RGB camera to detect slight color changes in the face at 30 fps. Functionally similar to traditional PPG technology employed by oximeters and smartwatches, the technology is called rPPG, which stands for Remote Photoplethysmography. The software analyzes light that reflects off exposed skin on a human face, which flushes red with each heartbeat in a phenomenon called “micro blushing”. In combination with advanced signal processing and computer vision, the software is able to calculate HR, BP, SpO2, and RR via a 40-60s video.
